36′ x 12′ Hanging Ceiling Replica of Sistine Chapel for Houston Museum of Fine Arts
The Houston Museum of Fine Arts commissioned airborne visuals to produce a rather large OVERHEAD Hanging Sign custom-made to replicate the Sistine Chapel for the Masterworks by Michelangelo 2018 exhibit… in 2 Weeks! Our production team sprang to life to engineer and manufacture a 36′ x 12′ aluminum tubular frame so it could be easily shipped, assembled and rigged from the ceiling by the museum staff. After clearing remaining copyrights hurdles with the Vatican, the graphic artists at MFAH were able to acquire and touch up photographs of the master piece so it would match our digital requirements for High Resolution output.

In order to keep the colors of the artwork vibrant and avoid any ghost effect, we added a inner liner for opacity. (Photo courtesy of the Houston Museum of Fine Arts.) In order to keep the colors vibrant and avoid any ghost effect, we added a inner liner for opacity. The sheer size of the ceiling forced us to depart from our standard snap tube frames and to utilize spigot tubing with our 2″ diameter tubing to keep the structure as rigid as possible so that it wouldn’t sag under the weight of the double layer of stretch fabric and the blocker.
